Spent the day appreciating the annoyance of a cracked/lose crown. Gumby and I started dickering with the painting. Not having the painting skill of a Mr. Duckett, Gumby and I try to fill this void in our building technique with enthusiasm. We needed some new painting supplies and quickly gave our closest Michael’s $60.00 American for three tubes of Liquitex paint and two new brushes. The under wing color we concocted is spot on when compared to our color graphics After placing a drop of our secret blend onto the graphic, and waiting for it to dry, the spot is imperceptible. Which may or not be the case, but to my eyes it is. The RAF fuselage color is not an olive green, not a burnt umber, nor a pink. Depending upon what drawing you reference, the color is chameleon like, depending on artist and printer.

After a bit of this and a tad of that me thinks we have a decent hybrid. Sure would like to have an original color photo to act as a guide. I must remember that the only concrete references for both structure and color are photographs. All other painted or printed illustrations, most models, mine included, are renditions, abstract interpretations from the builders “noodle”! When the joy of opening a box of sticks and sheets of wood fails to give you the feeling of “Making something from nothing”, you know its time to find another hobby!!! Gee this tooth is a pain in the asp!

Needs finishing touches, but I think it's too big. I'm open for suggestions.

Slow day here today. Gumby fired the Vickers and the recoil vibration was excessive. A diagonal metal brace was installed and the vibratory problem is resolved.

Dosen't look like a full 2 days work does it? BTW; when I said that I was machining the parts, it was all done with standard, i.e. full size, turning gouges and machinist files to work down to the final size.

Drilling the center of the tire out. (Looks like a shot from Fine Woodworking doesn't it?)
